Colorado's Obesity Prevention Plan

Return to contents

The Colorado Physical Activity and Nutrition Program (COPAN) has developed a state plan that outlines the direction COPAN will follow over the next ten years in order to accomplish its objective of preventing obesity and related chronic diseases and promoting healthy lifestyles for all Coloradans.

The plan is a tool that will be used by private and public partners for statewide planning, development, and implementation of physical activity and nutrition interventions, thus providing a cohesive approach to obesity prevention in Colorado. Healthy People 2010 was chosen to lead the program's future efforts. Healthy People 2010, which was developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is a statement of national health objectives designed to identify the most significant preventable threats to health and to establish national goals to reduce these threats.
